The Salaheddin district of the Syrian city of Aleppo where buses were brought to evacuate the last group of militants, has been hit by mortar fire on Wednesday.

ALEPPO (Sputnik) — Two mortars hit the district, the first exploded near the sports stadium, where the convoy of buses is located, the second shell exploded at the exit from the city, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported.

Over the recent months, Aleppo became a major battleground in Syria between government forces and militants. On Tuesday, the Russian reconciliation center said that the Syrian government army was controlling over 98 percent of the territory of Aleppo, with militants present in less than 3 square kilometers (1.1 square mile).
