MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Last week, Syria's Kurdish Democratic Union Party urged Washington to engage in cooperation with Syrian Kurds if Trump seriously aimed to combat terrorism in Syria, which was one of the main pledges in his election campaign.
"Trump has given a lot of pre-election promises, he has spoken against Daesh stating that [outgoing US President Barack] Obama has not been acting effectively and they need to find other methods. If he can do it… I think that people closest to him [will decide this]. Who becomes the state secretary also plays an important role. I hope he will be guided toward settling the question in the right way," Bebekir said.
"Trump is being discussed by the whole global community. As he has no experience in working in the president’s administration, it’s not clear who he is," the Kurdish politician concluded.
Ahead of the US presidential elections, Trump has said that the United States should stop trying to overthrow Assad and instead start looking for a diplomatic solution jointly with Russia.
