MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced the start of the military operation to retake Mosul from Daesh militants.
According to the Elaph website, the servicemen drove Daesh fighters from 56 oil wells and the sulfur factory near Kiara located in the vicinity of Mosul.
The media outlet added that during the military operation carried out in the abovementioned area Iraqi forces killed at least 31 jihadists.
Mosul, the second biggest Iraqi city, is the main stronghold of Daesh in Iraq. The city was seized by Daesh, which is banned in many countries, in 2014 along with a number of other northern and western Iraqi settlements.
