WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — US-led coalition forces carried out 25 airstrikes against Daesh terrorists in Syria and Iraq on Monday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.

"In Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 18 strikes using attack, bomber, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against Daesh targets," the release stated on Tuesday. In Syria, the 18 airstrikes destroyed Daesh targets near six cities, including Mara and Palmyra, destroying oil tanker trucks, oil pump jacks, oil well heads, fighting positions, tactical units, a staging area and several vehicles, the release noted.

Seven strikes in Iraq hit Daesh targets near three cities, including Mosul, the release added. The airstrikes destroyed tactical units, staging areas, mortar systems, artillery systems, buildings, fighting positions, vehicles, repeater tower generators, a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device facility, and rocket positions, among others.

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been conducting airstrikes against Daesh in Syria and Iraq since 2014. The strikes in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or by the United Nations Security Council.

The Islamic State, known as Daesh in Arabic, is outlawed in the United States, Russia and other countries.
