MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Hundreds of residents of the northern West Bank city of Nablus have taken part in violent protests on Tuesday accusing the Palestinian Authority Security Forces (PASF) of killing a detainee, Israeli media reported.
According to the Jerusalem Post newspaper, Nablus Governor Akram Rjoub confirmed that Ahmad Halawa, a city resident suspected of killing two security officers last week, died after he had been beaten by PASF members in the Junaid prison.
Following the incident, hundreds of protesters gathered at the central Nablus street and started to throw stones and clash with police, who used tear gas in response, the newspaper said.
On August 19, two security officers were killed in clashes with criminal suspects during an anti-criminal operation in the city. Halawa was suspected of masterminding the murder.
Nablus is located in Zone A, which is under full security control of the Palestinian Administration.
