Turkey Closes 3 News Agencies, Dozens of TV Stations and Newspapers

Turkish authorities shut down three news agencies, 16 TV stations, 23 radio stations, 45 newspapers and 15 magazines following the coup attempt in the country, local media reported Wednesday.

Watchdog Urges Turkey to Respect Freedom of Press Amid Media Crackdown
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The media purge in Turkey followed the July 15 military coup attempt, which was suppressed the following day. After the failed coup, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a state of emergency in the country.

According to CNN Turk, the list of closed media outlets includes Cihan news agency, STV and Kanalturk TV stations, as well as Zaman and Taraf newspapers.
