Turkish Rebels Lose Control of Military HQ, Attacks on Gov't Buildings Stop
05:26 GMT 16.07.2016 (Updated: 08:06 GMT 16.07.2016) Rebels taking part in the military coup attempt in Turkey have lost control of the military headquarters and now only control some military helicopters, a senior Turkish official told Reuters.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Attacks on the parliament building in Ankara as well as the presidential palace have largely stopped, the official said.
Earlier on Saturday, the Turkish government came under siege by a faction of military forces who sought to end the rule of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan citing the leader's drift away from the country's long-held secularist values.
According to the Ankara prosecutor’s office, at least 60 people were killed amid the military coup attempt in Turkey, 42 of them died in Ankara. The victims include civilians and military servicemen.
