MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The number of casualties from shelling in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo climbed to at least 30, with over 150 wounded, a local source told Sputnik on Saturday.
The previous toll stood at 20 killed and 140 wounded when a reported rocket-propelled grenade attack struck the city’s western neighborhood of Al-Furqan and the adjacent university dormitories.
The local sources told sputnik that 27 people were killed as result of shelling the dormitory where refugees from different parts of Aleppo and Idlib province were located.
Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremists. A Russia-US-brokered ceasefire came into effect in Syria on February 27, with terrorist groups such as the Islamic State (IS) and the Nusra Front, both outlawed in Russia, being excluded from the truce.
