Global powers are significant drivers of conflicts in the Islamic world, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Wednesday, as cited by local media.

MOSCOW, July 6 (Sputnik) — US is among global powers that triggers insecurity and terrorism in the Islamic world, Iran's Supreme Leader said Wednesday.

"[World powers are] supporting and fostering terrorism in practice," Khamenei was quoted as saying by the Tasnim news agency, referring to a US policy regarding Syria that turned political turmoil into a civil war, and which, he warned, could lead to the same scenario in Bahrain.

Why Kerry Unexpectedly Admits Iran’s ‘Helpful’ Role in Fight Against Daesh
"They (arrogant powers) seek to deny the existence of a geography and a nation," Khamenei said, speaking before Iranian officials and ambassadors of Islamic countries in Tehran.

He called on Bahrain not to allow a political conflict to turn into a civil war and prevent people from being pitted against each other.

Since 2011, the Sunni regime in Bahrain became locked in a struggle with opposition led primarily by Shiites, who form a majority in the country. The opposition is calling for political freedom, equality and a parliamentary system that operates independently of Bahrain’s Sunni royal family.
