The US-led coalition conducted 20 airstrikes against Daesh in Iraq and seven in Syria.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh carried out 27 airstrikes in Syria and Iraq against the terror group on Wednesday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted seven strikes using bomber, attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets," CENTCOM stated on Thursday. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 20 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq."

Near the Syrian city of Manbij, coalition airstrikes hit five Daesh tactical units, destroying three fighting positions, a vehicle and six command and control nodes. An additional strike near Abu Kamal destroyed four Daesh oil well heads, according to the statement.

In Iraq, the coalition conducted 20 strikes near 10 cities, including Fallujah, where three strikes hit two Daesh units and destroyed 10 fighting positions, three machine guns, two rocket propelled grenade systems and a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).

The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq since the summer of 2014 against Daesh, which is outlawed in the United States, Russia and many other countries. The strikes in Syria are conducted without the approval of the country’s legitimate government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.
