WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against Daesh conducted six airstrikes against the group’s positions in the Syrian city of Manbij on Tuesday as well as 20 airstrikes in Iraq, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a press release.
"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted six strikes using bomber, ground-attack, attack, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Daesh] targets," CENTCOM stated on Wednesday.
The coalition carried out all six Syrian strikes near the northern city of Manbij, where they hit Daesh tactical units and destroyed five of the group’s fighting positions and a vehicle.
Near Fallujah, strikes hit two Daesh tactical units and destroyed 11 fighting positions and eight heavy and light machine guns. The coalition conducted four strikes near Qayyarah and destroyed a Daesh communications facility, mortar system, nine boats, eight rocket rails, an ammunition cache, and other installations.
The US-led coalition of more than 60 nations has been carrying out airstrikes in Syria and Iraq since the summer of 2014 against Daesh. The strikes in Syria are conducted without the approval of the country’s legitimate government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.
