BAGHDAD (Sputnik) – Iraqi security sources foiled a terrorist attack north of Baghdad on Friday, killing a suicide bomber, Baghdad police said.
"The terrorist in a suicide belt tried to attack a military station near a channel of the Tigris river north of Baghdad," Saad Maan said.
According to Maan, the servicemen shot the extremist, causing his suicide belt to explode. No soldiers were injured in the incident.
Iraq, along with neighboring Syria, has been suffering from the advance of the Islamic State terrorist group, which is outlawed in Russia and the United States and many other countries.
