MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Syrian government troops near the city of Aleppo are not carrying out strikes against opposition groups that have accepted the ceasefire agreement, but are instead fighting with terrorists, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.
"[Our] American partners within our consultations as the co-chair of the International Support Syria Group raise various issues, including that in the area of Aleppo government forces are violating the cessation of hostilities. But the government troops that are supported by the Russian Aerospace Forces in Syria are not working against that part of the opposition that has accepted the conditions of the ceasefire, Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow.
The Syrian Army under the support of our Aerospace Forces are working against terrorists.”
The US-Russia-brokered ceasefire came into force across Syria on February 27. It was supported by Damascus, as well as by dozens of opposition groups on the ground.
