"In the future, the WFP is planning to make such deliveries regularly… Airlift is not the most effective but the only possible delivery method in the current circumstances. The Russian Federation is ready to continue providing comprehensive humanitarian assistance to the Syrian population in need both in collaboration with the UN and on bilateral basis," the ministry said.

The Russian Aerospace Forces together with Syrian partners has been delivering aid to Deir ez-Zor by airdrop since January. Since than, Russia has brought over 300 tonnes of food products, medications and necessities to the city.

Deir ez-Zor, a major Syrian eastern city with population of over 200,000 people, has been besieged by al-Nusra Front and Daesh, extremist groups outlawed in Russia, since March 2014.
