MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova — On Friday, a group of five French lawmakers, comprising Dhuicq, Thierry Mariani, Michel Voisin, Denis Jacquat and Valerie Boyer departed for Damascus.
"Yes, we are on our way to meet with Assad," Dhuicq said.
The lawmakers were expected to attend the Easter Vigil with Syrian Christians, as well as support those fighting against Daesh.
Daesh is a militant jihadist organization operating in both Syria and Iraq. The group, which is outlawed in many countries, including Russia, has committed numerous atrocities against civilians on the territories under its control.
