MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Sunday, media reported that Yemeni rival groups agreed to begin a ceasefire that would run for a week or two.
"I have mentioned that there is a lull, not a truce, something like a calm on the borders to allow for the delivery of food," Brig. Gen. Ahmed Asiri said.
He added that Saudi Arabia had delivered humanitarian aid and medicines to the northern Yemeni province of Sadah in the past two weeks.
Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Shiite Houthi rebels, who have been backed by army units loyal to former country's President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Since March 2015, Saudi-led coalition of Sunni nations has been carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis at Hadi's request.
