WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Nine of the 20 airstrikes in Iraq which were conducted in Mosul, targeted Daesh propaganda sites and two of the terror group’s manufacturing facilities. The US-led coalition also struck tactical units, staging areas, weapons factories and supply caches.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted two strikes using attack aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State]targets," the statement said. "Additionally in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 20 strikes coordinated with and in support of the government of Iraq using attack, fighter and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL [Islamic State] targets."

In Syria, two coalition airstrikes targeted a Daesh tactical unit and destroyed ten fighting positions, according to the statement.

The latest US coalition strikes come as Brent McGurk, the Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter the Islamic State, said yesterday that an offensive is underway to reclaim Mosul.

Daesh has been designated a terrorist organziation and is outlawed in the United States, Russia and numerous other countries. The terror group has occupied large areas in Iraq and Syria, and proclaimed an Islamic caliphate there.
