GENEVA (Sputnik) — Delegations from Damascus and the Syrian opposition entered into substantive discussion on Wednesday during peace talks in Geneva, UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy said.
"We did enter into substantive discussion today, we asked [Syrian government delegation's head Bashar] Jaafari to interpret some of the proposals that the government submitted," Ramzy told reporters after Special UN Envoy Staffan de Mistura's meeting with the Damascus delegation.
On Tuesday, de Mistura said that he received the eight-point proposal on Syrian settlement from the government delegation, and was receiving similar documents from the opposition.
The Swiss city of Geneva currently hosts proximity talks between the Syrian opposition and the government's delegation to settle the five-year civil war in Syria.
