“We're aware of and following closely the reports that Iran has just conducted several ballistic missile tests,” Toner stated. “To be very clear, such tests are not a violation of the JCPOA.”
However, if the US government does confirm the reports alleging Iran recently conducted several ballistic missile tests, it will raise the issue with the UN Security Council, Toner added.
Earlier on Tuesday, Iran’s state media reported that ballistic missile tests had been carried out.
“If confirmed, we intend to raise the matter in the UN Security Council,” Toner noted.
Toner also said the US government would carry out a “serious review” of the reported incident and would both “press for an appropriate response.”
The Obama administration, he pointed out, would continue to “aggressively apply its unilateral tools” to counter any threats from Iran’s missile program.
In November, media reported that Iran had tested a surface-to-surface Emad (Pillar) missile in violation of a UN Security Council resolution. Two months later, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on nearly a dozen Iranian entities and individuals over their alleged activities for the country’s missile program.
