Lavrov Set to Meet With UN Special Envoy for Syria on Tuesday
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The United Nations has successfully delivered non-food humanitarian aid to Syria’s rebel-held Damascus suburb of Muadhamiya and food supplies will be sent to four towns in East Ghouta on March 2, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) press office told Sputnik on Tuesday.

“I can confirm that aid delivery to Muadhamiya has been completed. About 50 trucks were able to successfully deliver non-food items and hygiene kits to Muadhamiya last night,” the press officer said.

The UN will deliver food and hygienic items to four towns in Syria’s East Ghouta on Wednesday.

“Our next priority is to deliver aid in East Ghouta and we also plan to deliver aid to another four towns which are Madaya, Zabadani, Foah, Kafraya. Very likely that we will be delivering to East Ghouta tomorrow. The aid will include food, nutrition and health supplies,” the press officer said.

The International Syria Support Group (ISSG), co-chaired by Russia and the United States, called in the February 12 communique for swift humanitarian access to all besieged areas in Syria, and set a one-week deadline for measures to be implemented toward the cessation of hostilities in the country.

On February 22, Moscow and Washington announced an agreement on the Syrian ceasefire reached in accordance with the ISSG communique. The ceasefire took effect at midnight on Saturday, Damascus time, generally holding across the country despite reported minor violations.
