The US-led coalition forces launched 18 airstrikes against Daesh militant group in eight Iraqi cities including Ramadi and Mosul, and lwo stikes in Syria, according to the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR).

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition launched 20 airstrikes on Islamic State (ISIL or Daesh) terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria targeting the group’s tactical units, vehicles, and supplies, the Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) announced in a statement on Wednesday.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted two strikes using fighter and remotely piloted aircraft," CJTF-OIR said. "Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 18 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using rocket artillery and attack, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets."

Coalition forces in Syria launched its airstrikes on Tuesday in and around the cities of Raqqah and Mara destroying an Daesh vehicle and hitting the group’s tactical units as well as fighting positions.

Meanwhile in Iraq, the 18 coalition airstrikes in eight Iraqi cities including Ramadi and Mosul targeted vehicle borne improvised explosive devices, IS checkpoints, heavy machine gun positions, supply caches, and destroyed their vehicles.

The Islamic State, also known as Daesh, is a terrorist group outlawed in the United States, Russia and many other countries. The infamous group has seized large areas in Syria and Iraq and declared a caliphate there under a strict Sharia law rule.
