Sudanese Migrant Shot Dead After Stabbing Soldier in Israel

A man identified as a Sudanese national was shot dead on Sunday after stabbing and wounding an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) officer in the southern coastal city of Ashkelon, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Arutz Sheva newspaper, the Sudanese national arrived at Ben Gurion Boulevard in Ashkelon early on Sunday when he stabbed the IDF soldier and then fled.

A second soldier who witnessed the attack then chased after the assailant to a nearby street, where he shot the suspect, the paper reported. The suspect later died at a hospital.

According to the paper, police said that the motive for the stabbing was yet unclear.

The IDF officer was transferred to the city's Barzilai Hospital with minor injuries.
