Russian weapons and hardware have given Iraq a leg-up in its struggle against Daesh terrorist group, Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled Obeidi said Friday.

CAIRO (Sputnik) — Russian arms supplies are best in combat, the Iraqi defense minister added.

"Most of our Air Force warplanes and weapons as a whole were made in Russia. Russian weapons are best in combat. Russia has played a big role in supporting and supplying us with arms and hardware, contributing greatly to the fight against Daesh," Obeidi said.

Russia has been supplying the Iraqi Armed Forces with weapons, fighter jets and attack helicopters.

Last October, the Iraqi Air Forces used Russian-built Su-30 jets for the first time on a bombing mission against Daesh in the central Salah al-Din province.

Earlier in January, the Iraqi army fully liberated Tal Kasiba area in the east of Tikrit city from Daesh terrorists.
