WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Two personnel of the International Committee of the Red Cross were taken hostage and one has been released, Yemen Delegation Head Antoine Grand said in a release.

"We do not know who is behind this abduction," Grand stated on Tuesday. "It is encouraging that one of our staff members has already been released. Now, I hope, the second one will be freed."

The Red Cross has decided to stop all field movements in Yemen until the hostage situation is resolved.

In September, two Red Cross staff were shot while travelling between Saada and Sana’a.

"We are in Yemen to provide humanitarian help to the people," Grand said. "Actions like this, against humanitarian workers, only make it more difficult for us to provide the assistance the people so desperately need."

The Red Cross kidnapping comes amidst Yemeni President Abd Mansur Rabbuh Hadi issuing a decree on Tuesday to appoint several new ministers to the government headed by Prime Minister Khaled Bahah.
