WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition launched 15 airstrikes on Daesh, also known as Islamic State (ISIL) terrorists in Syria and Iraq targeting tactical units, weapons caches and fighting positions, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced in a statement on Monday.

"In Syria, coalition military forces conducted three strikes using bomber and remotely piloted aircraft," CENTCOM said. "Separately in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 12 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, and remotely piloted aircraft against ISIL targets."

Near the Syrian towns of Dayr Az Zawr and al-Hawl, three coalition strikes on Sunday destroyed ISIL bulldozers, an ISIL checkpoint and also wounded an ISIL fighter, according to the statement.

In Iraq, the US coalition denied Daesh access to terrain near the city of Mosul, destroyed vehicles and tunnel systems and hit buildings, tactical units and defensive fighting positions.

The US-led coalition of some 65 states have been carrying out airstrikes against Daesh positions in Iraq since August 2014, and in Syria since September 2014, albeit without approval of the UN Security Council or the Syrian government.
