Majority Iranians Say Nuclear Deal to Improve Relations With West

A majority of Iranians say the nuclear agreement reached by Tehran and the P5+1 group of countries is a good deal and expect improved relations with the West once the agreement is implemented, a new Gallup poll revealed on Thursday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — According to the poll, 68 percent of Iranians believe the country’s leadership "negotiated a good deal" for Iran.

"The majority of Iranians expect good things to come from the landmark agreement," Gallup stated. "Many Iranians are also hopeful that the deal will lead to better relations with the West and the country's long-time nemesis, the [United States]."

Some 56 percent say the nuclear agreement marks "a turning point in relations with the West," while 66 percent say the agreement will "improve their personal economic situations."

Moreover, 47 percent say they believe the nuclear agreement will improve relations between Tehran and Washington, but are "skeptical that the United States will fully honor the agreement," according to Gallup.

The results of the poll come after Iran and the group of P5+1 group of countries, including the United States, Russia, China, France and the United Kingdom plus Germany, reached a deal in July to monitor and limit Tehran's nuclear program for peaceful purposes in exchange for sanctions relief.
