MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Another presidential election session has been scheduled for December 2, according to the National News Agency.

The decision was announced by speaker of the House of Parliament, Nabih Berri.

Lebanon has been in a political vacuum since 2014, when the former president, Michel Suleiman, ended his term in the office. For more than a year, parliament has failed to choose a replacement.

Under the Lebanese Constitution, only a Maronite Christian elected by the parliament is eligible to become head of the state. The difficulty of the election procedure arises because the Maronite Church belongs to the Catholic Church, and supporters represent only a quarter of the country’s population.
