Turkey’s allies from the US-led anti-ISIL coalition may support Ankara’s idea on the creation of a safe zone in northern Syria, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday.

"We are insisting on a no-fly zone in Syria as a safe zone. Our allies are getting closer to the idea. Some progress has also been made on conducting a ground operation against ISIL," Erdogan was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

He added that coalition warplanes have been deployed to the Incirlik Air Base in southern Turkey. If necessary they can be redeployed to other bases.

"We are determined to fight ISIL. Yesterday, I had a phone conversation with US President Barack Obama on the issue," Erdogan said.

On October 5, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed a no-fly zone and a safe zone, as well as increased training and equipment for Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters to decrease the high numbers of Syrians fleeing to Europe and other states.

Previously, Turkey proposed a buffer zone in northern Syria, but the United States and NATO did not support the initiative.

Does the terrorist American government need a safe zone for training and arming its new batch of "moderate" terrorists.

Erdogan seems set to add a Kurd genocide to the Armenian one.
Now if IS get kicked out of Syria it looks probable that they will return to Turkey. Chickens coming home to roost.

n.petrossov, Exactly. Erdogan doesn't read this site; he should, just to understand what is ahead for him. If I were him, I would read this site.

It is a high time for Russia to stop to behave as spineless worm and stands up for its own interests. First thing it has to do is to supply Syria and own bases in Syria with most modern anti aircraft defence systems. That has to be done YESTERDAY as tomorrow is already too late.

Syria should demand UN GA to protect its sovereignty and condemn illegal intrusions and bombardment of their land. That would create legal strain on USA and their terror supporting coalition partners and at same time give Syria justification to defend its own airspace.

Russia should be aware that Turkey is not a business partner what so ever. Turks are opportunists who will stub a knife in anyone's back at first opportune moment. If Turkey succeeds to create safe zone in Syria than Russia can kiss goodbye in selling gas or crude to EU as Turkey will block construction of South Stream and build all needed pipe lines from Gulf countries to EU. That will give to Turkey enormous political and economic power and Russia will be left out.

Turkey is not a trustful partner and they will betray their own mother for a fistful of profit. If Turkey would be sincere they would already commit themselves in building South Stream but they hold Russia in suspension. Russia should triple North stream capacities thus making South Stream obsolete and abandon business relations with Turks.

Next what Russia should do is to seriously rearm Syria with heavily upgraded S-350 and S-300 Antay, as well as Pantsir S1, BUK missiles, Yakhont anti ship supersonic cruise missile, and most importantly with electronic warfare to disable western aircraft, radars and their missiles.

Beside that they should supply Syria with upgraded armour such as T-80 which is still formidable tank and it would prove to be even better in Syria.

To conclude, Syria should go and legally charge violators of its sovereignty and then after receiving necessary air defence systems as well as ground military hardware, declare its airspace closed and warn these US rectum lickers that they will shoot down anyone who would try to violate their sovereign airspace or territory.

If US and its coalition slaves would succeed in their intent to divide Syria than Russia can close its shop and it will be completely isolated and start to suffer serious economic damages as there would be no longer any gas supply to EU as that would be done by new gas pipes from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Gulf countries. They would be deliberately cheaper than Russia only to cause complete Russian financial crash. SO RUSSIA DEFEND YOUR NATIONAL INTEREST OR YOU WILL PAY TOO HIGH PRICE.
  • Russia has played an important part in getting all the allies together to fight ISIS. You should all be proud.

    slimyfox,
It's Qatar that has the huge gas fields with Iran.....not the Saudis or UAE.
