The airport of the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh will receive a total of 23 flights from Russia on Thursday.

CAIRO (Sputnik) — The airport of the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh will receive a total of 23 flights from Russia on Thursday, Egypt's minister of civil aviation said Thursday.

"Today 23 flights to Sharm el-Sheikh from Russia, eight from Ukraine, three from Italy, one from Turkey, two from Saudi Arabia, one from Jordan and one from Belgium will be serviced," Mohamed Hossam Kamal said in a statement.

On Saturday, a Russia-operated Airbus A321, en route from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg, crashed in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. All 224 people on board were killed in what has become the largest civil aviation disaster in Russian and Soviet history.

Several major international airlines, specifically, Air France, Flydubai, Lufthansa, Air Arabia and Emirates, announced decisions to suspend their flights over the Sinai Peninsula after the crash. On Wednesday, the UK government announced the suspension of all flights to and from the Egyptian city until additional security measures had been adopted.
