WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition against the Islamic State (ISIL) has not launched airstrikes in Syria for two consecutive days, while conducted more than a dozen airstrikes in Iraq on each of those days, according to the US Central Command.

“In Iraq, coalition military forces conducted 13 strikes coordinated with and in support of the Government of Iraq using bomber, fighter, and attack aircraft against ISIL targets,” the Central Command said in a release on Thursday.

Wednesday’s airstrikes in Iraq eliminated three ISIL tactical units, 36 fighting positions, three mortar positions, eight boats, and two machine guns.

On Tuesday, 14 strikes in Iraq, launched near six Iraqi cities to the north and west of Baghdad, hit ISIL tactical units, fighting positions, machine guns, and other infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Russia continues its airstrikes campaign against the Islamic State in Syria that started on September 30 at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday aircraft from the Russian air group deployed in Syria carried out 71 combat missions in the past 24 hours hitting 118 terrorist targets in six provinces.
