MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the statement, Abdul Mohsen Adballah Ibrahim al Charekh, aka Sanafi al-Nasr was killed in an airstrike carried out by the US-led international coalition on October 15 in northwestern Syria.
"Al-Nasr was a long-time jihadist experienced in funneling money and fighters for al-Qaeda. He moved funds from donors in the Gulf region into Iraq and then to al-Qaeda leaders from Pakistan to Syria," Cook said.
He added that al-Nasr "organized and maintained routes for new recruits to travel from Pakistan to Syria through Turkey in addition to helping al-Qaeda's external operations in the West."
Syria has been mired in a civil war since 2011 with the Syrian government army fighting against several opposition factions and numerous militant groups, including Islamic State and the Nusra Front, an al-Qaeda affiliate.
