At least 250 Islamic State militants of Tunisian origin have left Syria since the beginning of the Russian military operation, Tunisian Defense Minister Farhat Horchani said in a statement Sunday.

DAMASCUS (Sputnik) — A Syrian military source said on Monday that over 3,000 militants had left Syria through the border with Jordan for less than a week of the Russian military operation.

"At least 250 terrorists, who fought with IS [ISIL] in Syria, fled to Libya after the beginning of Russia's air force operation in the SAR [Syrian Arab Republic]," Horchani said as quoted by the Syrian SANA news agency.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Defense Ministry said panic was sweeping ISIL militants amid airstrikes.
