GAZA/MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Israeli airstrikes launched in retaliation to an intercepted rocket from the Gaza Strip killed a Palestinian woman and her three-year-old daughter, media said on Sunday.
"A Palestinian woman who was five months pregnant and her three-year-old daughter have been killed in an Israeli air strike in the north of the besieged Gaza Strip," Al Jazeera cited local medical sources as saying.
The victims are said to be 30-year-old Noor Hassan and her daughter Rahaf Hassan, who perished when their house collapsed from Israeli air force strikes targeting a Hamas site near their home.
Hours earlier, Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system intercepted a rocket launched from Gaza in the southern region of Ashkelon. Israel attributes all attacks from the coastal exclave as those perpetrated by Gaza’s de-facto governing body Hamas.
The Jerusalem Post cited the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) as saying its air force struck two Hamas weapons-manufacturing sites.
