The Obama administration has missed time and opportunities to help resolve the Syrian conflict by ineffectively supporting secular opposition forces and is now running out of alternative options, Senator Deb Fischer said in a release on Friday.

Obama Advisors Recommend US Military Withdrawal From Syria
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States, Fisher cautioned, cannot merely bide time, hoping for the Islamic State to implode while overlooking the death and destruction the extremists continue to inflict across the Middle East.

“This isn’t a regional problem — it’s a global problem,” she added.

“While it is somewhat encouraging to see the administration, at long last, acknowledge the facts on the ground, it remains clear we have lost valuable time and opportunities waiting to address this situation,” Fischer said in the release. “I fear our options moving forward are increasingly limited.”

Fischer called on President Obama to come up with a new strategy to destroy the Islamic State.

“It is the president’s responsibility to develop and execute a strategy that will actually achieve his stated goal of degrading and destroying [the Islamic State],” Fisher said. “As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I stand ready to provide needed oversight for any plan moving forward.”
