CAIRO (Sputnik) — The tourists were mistaken for targets during a security operation on Sunday in a restricted area in the Western Desert, where Egyptian police and servicemen were pursuing Islamist militants. The vacationers were reportedly on a safari trip when they came under fire.
Wednesday’s ban covers foreign outlets but does not apply to official statements released by Egyptian prosecutors.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has urged the Egyptian authorities to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation into the tragic accident. Six more Mexicans reportedly remain at a Cairo hospital. They are said to be in stable condition.
