Turkey Closes Three Border Crossings With Iran

Turkey has decided to close three checkpoints on the border with Iran, for security reasons, the Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade said on Wednesday.

ANCARA (Sputnik) — However, the ministry added that the measure is temporary.

"For security reasons, the border crossings Uzumlu, Esendere, and Kapikoy on the Turkish-Iranian border are closed today," the ministry said.

In late August, militants from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is banned in Turkey, kidnapped a total of 20 Turkish customs officers during their transportation to the place of service on the Turkish-Iran border crossing points, including the Kapikoy.
