MOSCOW (Sputnik), Svetlana Alexandrova – The Syrian government has a strategy to stem the unprecedented outflow of refugees but needs help in implementing it, the Syrian national reconciliation minister told Sputnik on Thursday.
"The Syrian government put in place a complete strategy to stop the refugee flow from Syria and needs help to put this plan into action," Ali Haidar said.
Haidar delineated the strategy, saying it includes providing safe passage for returning refugees, supplying them with refugee centers, as well as rebuilding villages and city districts.
As proof of the strategy’s success, the minister recounted the government’s efforts repatriating 15,000 residents of al-Husseiniya, a city east of Damascus, last week.
"We have rebuilt all town infrastructure, and we are providing them with food, schooling and medical help," Haidar stressed.
Syria has been engulfed in a civil war since 2011, which has displaced over ten million Syrians.
