MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Israeli officials are ready to release Palestinian prisoner Muhammad Allaan, jailed without charge, by November if he ends his hunger strike, Haaretz reported Wednesday, citing Palestinian officials.
Allaan, an alleged Islamic jihad activist, has been in detention since November 2014. He has been on a hunger strike for over 60 days.
According to officials from the Palestinian Prisoners Club, the release offer was to be presented by Israeli officials earlier in the day, but due to Allaan’s deteriorating medical condition it has not yet been made.
On Tuesday, the detainee emerged from a coma after suffering a seizure and being taken to the Ashkelon's Barzilai Medical Center.
Previously, Allaan rejected several offers by Israeli authorities, including a proposal to be released in two years, pledging to continue his hunger strike.
According to the newspaper, the detainee would reject any offer that distances him from his family, but may stop the hunger strike if the country proposes to release him by the end of September.
Under Israeli law, suspects can be detained without charge for up to six months, but the Administrative Detention order can be renewed indefinitely if a detainee is decreed to be a threat to national security.
