Turkey's Military Operation in Syria Not Aimed At Government
Turkey’s security was boosted after a July 20 suicide bombing in the city of Suruc. The attack, reportedly carried out by the Islamic State militant group, killed at least 32 people, most of them Kurds.

Shortly following the suicide bombing, Kurdish militia from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) killed two policemen in Turkey, claiming the officers had backed ISIL.

The same week, the Turkish Armed Forces launched a military campaign against ISIL and the PKK. Ankara has been conducting airstrikes on positions of the unaffiliated groups in Syria and northern Iraq.
