The strikes hit the slums of the city’s eastern Sawan neighborhood on Monday, FARS news agency reported, citing local medical officials.

Smoke was seen billowing from the area located just hundreds of meters away from a military camp used by the insurgents.

Hospital officials said there were women and children among the casualties.

Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen since March in a bid to bring its ally, fugitive president Mansour Hadi, back to power.

The airstrikes have so far claimed the lives of more than 5,000 civilians, most of them women and children.
