Syrian Air Force Strikes Kill Over 140 ISIL Militants in Raqqah

The Syrian Air Force killed more than 140 Islamic State militants in an airstrike on the extremist group's positions in the northern Syrian province of Raqqah, Syrian media reported Tuesday, citing a source in the military.

BEIRUT (Sputnik) — ISIL positions near a Syrian Air Force base in the vicinity of the city of Tabqah came under fire, according to SANA news agency.

In August 2014, the Islamic State took control of the base, which was the last stronghold of the Syrian Army in the Raqqah province.

After the seizure, the radicals proclaimed the city of Raqqah the capital of the Islamic State.
