SANAA (Sputnik) The aircraft of the Saudi-led coalition launched their third attack on the runway of the airport in Yemeni capital Sanaa, an airport security source told Sputnik Saturday.

"The coalition planes bombed the runway which was only rebuilt recently," the source said.

According to the source, the attack was carried out to prevent the Red Cross from delivering humanitarian aid, as the organization had not requested permission from the coalition.

Yemen has been mired in turmoil in recent months, as Houthi rebels overtook large areas of the country, including the capital Sanaa, and forced President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to flee.

A coalition led by Saudi Arabia started launching airstrikes in Yemen on the positions of Houthis at Hadi's request in late March.

By late April, the coalition declared the end to its airstrikes, but the attacks continued.

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel Jubeir announced Friday that a five-day humanitarian ceasefire will begin in Yemen on Tuesday.
