Aden Airport has been an arena of fierce fighting between pro-government forces and the Houthis, a Shia insurgent group, for over a week.

The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah, have taken control of parts of Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, forcing Hadi to flee the country.

Following Hadi's request for military aid, Saudi Arabia and several other countries formed a coalition and began carrying out airstrikes against the Houthis in late March.
