Martin Reen, 33, and Thomas Ollson, 50, did missionary work in Jordan and were taken prisoner in November 2013, after they had crossed the Syrian border, local newspaper Dagen reported.
Swedish Foreign Minister Margot thanked Palestine and Jordan for negotiating with the Nusra Front, al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria, to release the men.
"I want to thank all the countries that have supported us. A special thanks to Palestine and President Abbas personally," she said in a statement adding that his actions played a decisive role in resolving the hostage crisis.
