Fighters in the Yemeni port city of Aden claim to have captured two military officers from Iran's elite Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution, also known as Revolutionary Guards.

They say the officers assisted the Houthis in an advisory capacity.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly denied Tehran provides military support to the Houthis. "There are no Iranian soldiers in Yemen," a source in Iran's Defense Ministry told Sputnik. "These are attempts of some states to prove that Iran takes part in the military operation in Yemen."

Tensions have been on the rise in Yemen recently, with the Houthis battling troops loyal to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

An international coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been conducting airstrikes against Houthi positions since late March, following Hadi's request for military aid.
