The Saudi airstrikes on a missile storage in the Yemeni capital caused a massive explosion in the heart of the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

The Saudi-led international coalition carried out airstrikes in the Yemeni capital of Sanaa targeting a missile storage, located on the Faj Attan mountain. The bombing triggered a massive explosion in the area.

Local residents fled their homes, with some using basements as bombing shelters. Many are feared injured in the airstrikes targeting the Faj Attan neighborhood but no official information on the number of killed or injured has been released.

The Saudi-led allied bombing of the Yarim District to the south of Sanaa left at least 11 dead and another 30 injured, a security source told Sputnik on Tuesday.

In total, 37 people were killed and 150 injured after five days of airstrikes on Yemeni targets by the international coalition.

The Saudi-led coalition began air raids against Houthi positions in the Yemeni capital Sanaa and its suburbs on Wednesday, at the request of the country's ousted President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

The campaign is designed to roll back the Houthi military insurgency that flared up across Yemen after massive protests against the government in August 2014.

On Monday, a spokesman for the Saudi military said that the coalition had taken full control of all Yemeni ports.
