Egypt Postpones Parliament Elections After Court Rules Out Voting Law
10:48 GMT 01.03.2015 (Updated: 10:59 GMT 01.03.2015) Earlier in the day, Egypt's Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the article of the country's election law regarding the separations by single-mandate constituencies.
CAIRO (Sputnik) – Egyptian High Electoral Commission postponed the first round of the country's parliamentary elections, which were to take place March 21 after a part of election law was declared unconstitutional, Sky News Arabia reported Sunday.
23 February 2015, 09:17 GMT
The elections will reportedly be suspended until the law is amended.
In January, the electoral commission announced that the country's House of Representatives elections would take place on March 21-23 and April 25-27.
Egypt has been mired in political turbulence since the ouster of its first democratically elected president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, following a series of mass anti-government protests. Abdel Fattah Sisi has served as Egypt's de-facto president since the coup and came into power officially last May.
