MOSCOW, January 9 (Sputnik) Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov will pay a visit to Tehran on January 12 to hold talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on the country's controversial nuclear program, Tasnim News Agency reported Friday, citing Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

"Russian deputy [foreign] minister Ryabkov will arrive in Iran on Monday, January 12, for a meeting with the Iranian delegation and Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif," the agency quoted Araghchi as saying.

According to Araghchi, Zarif will also meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry on January 14 in Geneva.

"The purpose of these meetings is to formulate recommendations for the negotiators," the deputy foreign minister said.

In addition, Araghchi said that Iran and the US delegation will hold bilateral meetings on January 15-17.

The international community has long expressed concern over Iran's nuclear program, accusing Tehran of developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear program. Tehran has repeatedly dismissed the accusations.

After years of talks, Iran and the P5+1 group of international mediators, which includes Russia, the United States, Britain, France, China and Germany, have agreed to prepare a document ensuring the peaceful nature of Tehran's nuclear program. However, the sides have only managed to reach an interim accord on the issue.

The deadline for a long-term comprehensive agreement was extended until July 1, 2015, with the next round of talks planned to be conducted in Geneva on January 18.
