ASUNCION (Sputnik) — Earlier this month, a delegation of Paraguayan lawmakers, headed by Benitez visited Moscow and met Russia's high-ranking officials, including Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and upper house speaker Valentina Matvienko. The was the first such visit in the history of the countries' bilateral ties.
"Our country can become a strategically important destination for Russian capital — not only for investment in Paraguay, but also for investments in all the countries in the Mercosur bloc. Paraguay could be the center that would help Russian products enter the bloc's market," Benitez told RIA Novosti.
The lawmaker stressed that Paraguay was located in a strategically important location in South America — between the two major markets of Argentine and Brazil.
Benitez also underscored that his country had the most stable currency on the continent.
