Patriarch Kirill's Visit to Cuba to Make Moscow-Havana Relations 'Brighter'
HAVANA (Sputnik) — The government of Cuba is ready to provide the facilities to host a follow up meeting between the leaders of the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox churches, a source in the Cuban Foreign Ministry told Sputnik.

"We always have our disposition to offer all the facilities for a meeting," the Cuban official stated on Friday.

The official emphasized the Cuban government would be happy to host any future meetings in the interest of world piece and Christian understanding.

"As the Pope said, Cuba will be the capital of peace and I think that it was a very good moment for the Christian religion, and Cuba provided all the facilities for that," the official noted.

The official also pointed out that hosting the meeting was a major and constructive achievement for the Caribbean island nation.

"It was a very important event in Cuba," the official added.

Friday’s meeting marked the first time that leaders of the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches have met in nearly 1,000 years. The two broke apart over theological differences in 1054, officially separating in 1438.
